These days, we can find a lot of acne alternative treatments on the market, all claiming to clear up your skin at once. A lot of Internet sites show full of pages of testimonials from individuals who have used the treatments and been cured. And some of them have been. The trouble is that an acne alternative that works for one doesn't work for another. It does not matter what the claims of the various people who advertise skin care merchandises, facials, and nutritional procedures to clear up your skin, until a particular treatment is tried on an person, nobody knows whether it's going to work or not. Unfortunately, that means it's hit or miss for most of us.

Once you've gotten fed up with the antibiotics, topical treatments and Accutane offered by your dermatologist, where do you begin? Or, maybe you never wanted to go that direction in the first place. You have to start somewhere, whatever drove you to seek a non traditional acne alternative.

First, consult widely. Chances are very good that you know a friend who have experienced acne and cleared it up or who have it presently and are in the course of clearing it up. Learn from their experience. Write down information. Then try some of the things that have worked for them. Hope for the best, but understand that it could take a while before you find the right combination of products, treatments and lifestyle changes that will help you the most.

Also be aware that some acne alternative products with the same basic ingredients can be sold at a very different price. Find out what the active ingredients the products are made with and try the less expensive versions of them before you pay for the more costly ones.

Seeking the help of a professional is also a good idea. Naturopaths have regimens of vitamins, herbs and gentle cleansers that can do miracles. The high-priced prescription medicine Accutane is in fact derived from plain old Vitamin A. Under a naturopath's care, you can take high doses of Vitamin A for predetermined periods, along with other herbs and vitamins and potentially clear up your skin without the side effects of Accutane, which, if you are female, can include birth defects in your kid should you become pregnant while using the drug.

Light therapy is a promising acne alternative. For a set amount of time every day, the application of red and blue ultraviolet light can clear up acne for some people. You can buy on the Internet a device that emits this type of light safely. The cost is about $200. This is a cheaper alternative to try before visiting an esthetician who has comparable, more powerful tools.
